We are the Rooney family from Australia and are desperately searching for our son Owen, who walked away from the hospital and his belongings in Grand Forks, BC, on August 14, 2010. He has not been heard from since. It is extremely unusual for him to not be in contact with friends and family.

He had sustained a head injury on Aug 12, 2010.

He is 5'9" tall, 160 lb, has an Australian accent and was last seen wearing a dark shirt and shorts. He has tattoos on his right calf and on his shoulder (see pictures below, right). He worked at Big White in Kelowna for the previous two winters and at a restaurant in Kelowna until his disappearance.

We are asking for your help and are most appreciative of any help you can give us. If you can print out posters and put them up, that would help a LOT (visit this site and right click to print or go to the Facebook page and click on File and then Owens Poster to download it). Read below to see where posters have already been placed.

Our Facebook page is Help Find Owen Rooney. To share via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc, there is a row of icons below the word Comments under each post. Just click on the appropriate one. Facebook gives you two choices for the thumbnail you can use. I suggest you use the picture of Owen. I can't get it to be the default.

Do you have any further ideas? Enter any info by clicking a Comments link below. Thanks!!

Two years

Two years on we are maintaining our connections in Canada. The RCMP and Dept of Foreign Affairs of Australia still maintain minimal contact. We have had no knowledge of any supposed sightings for the last few months. We have worked to make sure our family is still strong and held together with the love that guided our search. We continue to hold open the path that will allow and guide Owen to return to us in whatever form that is. We love you Owen. We will do or follow any leads that are sent to us. We are eternally grateful to all who have helped and continue with their love support trust and faith. Our website www.find-owen.com is till active and a poster can be downloaded if you would like to put one in your town in Canada or the USA And so our journey continues in trust. Thank you all.

A Prayer written for us by a lady in the USA. We thank her for it and it is well used for anyone who would like to share it today.

Prayer:
I know there is One Mind of Wisdom & Love. I know within that Mind is Divine Resolution about any & every circumstance of concern. I know Love flows to every Life & every Life is sustained in Love. Within this Truth I call forth that Divine Wisdom to guide all those who are seeking Owen. I trust Owen's whereabouts are revealed now. I am grateful for the Powerful Invisible Loving Support that is present in this search & that this family feels this Love on a tangible level.
I am thankful for the Love that flows to Owen from his family & from Spirit. I trust the Grace of God is with Owen now & always. I rest in this Grace, knowing Resolution is at hand now. I release these words into the Universal Law of Attraction, knowing It is always paying attention to our focus & saying "yes" to that which we focus upon. I trust Owen is found & reunited with his family now. And so it is! Amen.

thank you all

100 Mile House

After the airing of the Fifth Estate program, the RCMP in 100 Mile House were contacted regarding a possible sighting of Owen there. They looked into the person thought possibly to be Owen and it believe to be a local man.

However we are very grateful to Constable Chris Manseau for keeping our story alive and submitting it to the local newspaper.

We Are Not The Only Family Missing a Loved One

Since we have begun our search for Owen, a number of people have contacted us to say that they too have missing loved ones. Some have found them, but others have not. A friend of a missing young lady in Revelstoke, BC has suggested we help each other with an exchange of information on each other's sites, to help us all reach a wider audience:

Here is Brianne Wolgram's story:
Twelve and a half years ago she went missing in Revelstoke, BC. On Sept 7, 2010 the The Province newspaper published this article:

"The Revelstoke teen was only 19 when she vanished on Sept. 5, 1998, last seen at 11:30 p.m. outside a 7-Eleven store in the company of three unidentified girls about her age.

Five days later, her black Acura Integra was found on a logging road near Akolkolex Falls, about a 45-minute drive from her house. Her keys were in the ignition; her ID and cash found in the glove compartment."

ninemsn in Australia

ninemsn in Australia has a news story about our situation. There are a few details included there that other stories have not had. Also a more pictures, a timeline and a map. Here is the first part of the article:
The Rooney family, which includes Owen's parents and three siblings, is clinging to the hope the young traveller is still alive and may not know who he is.

PHOTOS: Family's desperate search

But they also feel frustrated by "loose ends" in the investigation such as why Owen sent about 10 text messages to his ex-girlfriend the night before he disappeared and what made him walk out of a hospital without telling anyone, while still recovering from head trauma, and leave behind his broken phone and backpack.

MAP: Owen's last known movements

The Grand Forks Gazette Spoke With the Local RCMP

Karl Yu, Grand Forks Gazette, Feb 23, 2011:

"Grand Forks RCMP’s Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison says that his detachment stays in contact with Rooney’s family on a regular basis and there haven’t been any developments.

He did say that Grand Forks Search and Rescue conducted a search of the Hardy Mountain area on Feb. 12 but, like other searches, it failed to yield any results.

“We want to solve this thing,” Harrison says. “It’s just been a huge, huge file. I mean we’re up to 850 pages on the file already, it’s just monstrous. It’s stretched from Alberta to all of B.C. It’s been a big effort and we’re still active as Hell in the investigation, as far as following up on tips and going back and (re-examining) things that are already done just to make sure – it’s not going to end until we get something substantive to work with.”

Back in December, there were reports of Rooney being sighted on Vancouver Island with a group of people selling dreamcatchers, but Harrison says that there haven’t been any such reports lately.

“We did identify one guy amongst the dreamcatcher sellers – at least we had a picture of him – and it definitely was not Owen,” says Harrison.

As for Owen’s family, they have been following up on all leads and while there have been reports that they will return to Australia, they haven’t made a firm decision yet. They are still hoping people with any information will come forward.

“We will have to go home at some stage but we have not decided when that is yet,” explains Kelly Rooney, Owen’s sister.

“It’s a difficult decision to make. Australia is a long way to go home with unanswered questions. That’s why we need anyone with any information about Owen to come forward, either to us or the police.

“There are still questions we need answered. Why was Owen at Christina Lake? Did he know anyone there? Did he go back there after the hospital? Where is he now? Someone has to know these answers. We just need these people to come forward and help,” she says."
