CTV-TV story:
The Times Colonist in Victoria has two news stories today:
Please keep your eyes posted! If you believe you see him, the police request that you keep him in sight and phone 9-1-1.
We are the Rooney family from Australia and are desperately searching for our son Owen, who walked away from the hospital and his belongings in Grand Forks, BC, on August 14, 2010. He has not been heard from since. It is extremely unusual for him to not be in contact with friends and family.
He had sustained a head injury on Aug 12, 2010.
He is 5'9" tall, 160 lb, has an Australian accent and was last seen wearing a dark shirt and shorts. He has tattoos on his right calf and on his shoulder (see pictures below, right). He worked at Big White in Kelowna for the previous two winters and at a restaurant in Kelowna until his disappearance.
We are asking for your help and are most appreciative of any help you can give us. If you can print out posters and put them up, that would help a LOT (visit this site and right click to print or go to the Facebook page and click on File and then Owens Poster to download it). Read below to see where posters have already been placed.
Our Facebook page is Help Find Owen Rooney. To share via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc, there is a row of icons below the word Comments under each post. Just click on the appropriate one. Facebook gives you two choices for the thumbnail you can use. I suggest you use the picture of Owen. I can't get it to be the default.

Ok so has this jump been looked at yet...
ReplyDeleteIf Owen was dazed which Im sure he was...could he have caught a ride with a vendor who sold dreamcatchers at Shambhala? Only to join them later on by selling door to door?
Is this how its being looked at because the news hasnt made that jump in what Ive seen. If so we need to get a list of vendors somehow and look for any that are based on the island.

Great idea Nik!!! The people who run shambalah have been helpful so they may have the contact details... we have one company we are trying to get onto in Vancouver "Nordlys". If anyone knows of any other companies maybe recruiting backpackers for door to door selling, that might be helpful

ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that there have been sightings of Owen; I am holding onto hope for his safe return. My thoughts are with you all!
ReplyDeleteOwen sounds like a very resourceful young man, so I would imagine that he has now found a way to get a pair of pants and a coat. Perhaps checking with thrift stores in the area and putting up posters would help. People may remember seeing someone wearing shorts recently. It seems like that might stand out.
Did the tipsters mention his clothing? Perhaps you could add that to the poster.
Just some ideas; hope this helps!
These sightings are definitely not confirmed. They have come mostly to the RCMP. We can only hope that it is Owen. With the weather so severe, hopefully he would have certainly traded his shorts in by now. We have discovered so many services that Vancouver has, and wonderful volunters working with those who are struggling with day to day life. When we go to any town we try to contact police hospitals shelters soup kitchens community services and thrift shops. When Owen first went missing we did this through boundry and the kooteneys and the okenagen. with the weather its been a bit daunting in the lower mainland but we will keep going thanks to everyone for your support and ideas. Fresh eyes are always helpful.!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind response, Sharron, and for clarifying that the sightings haven't been confirmed. At least the tips show that the public is hearing about Owen and is invested in finding him! I do hope one of the social programs in Vancouver will provide you with a solid lead or that someone will spot him soon. I wish I lived there so I could pass out posters and join the search.
