We are the Rooney family from Australia and are desperately searching for our son Owen, who walked away from the hospital and his belongings in Grand Forks, BC, on August 14, 2010. He has not been heard from since. It is extremely unusual for him to not be in contact with friends and family.

He had sustained a head injury on Aug 12, 2010.

He is 5'9" tall, 160 lb, has an Australian accent and was last seen wearing a dark shirt and shorts. He has tattoos on his right calf and on his shoulder (see pictures below, right). He worked at Big White in Kelowna for the previous two winters and at a restaurant in Kelowna until his disappearance.

We are asking for your help and are most appreciative of any help you can give us. If you can print out posters and put them up, that would help a LOT (visit this site and right click to print or go to the Facebook page and click on File and then Owens Poster to download it). Read below to see where posters have already been placed.

Our Facebook page is Help Find Owen Rooney. To share via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc, there is a row of icons below the word Comments under each post. Just click on the appropriate one. Facebook gives you two choices for the thumbnail you can use. I suggest you use the picture of Owen. I can't get it to be the default.

  1. I understand there is a report of a possible sighting in Oktoks. Has the RCMP actually done anything about this? Spoken to anyone in the area? Inquired of camera footage of other merchants? Traffic cameras? What festivals took place in that area at about that time? Any reports of vendors at those festivals?
Any vehicle associated with the salesman/salesmen at the vet clinic? Is the RCMP actually doing anything?

  2. Are the RCMP ignoring any sighting that is a solitary sighting unaccompanied by other independent sightings in a close geographical pattern?
That is often a police tactic in such matters.

  3. We believe the RCMP consider the Dream Catcher tips as old as they are weeks old, and that Owen is not with one or two of the groups because the chaperone that is travelling with one of these groups told the RCMP that it is impossible for Owen to be with them. The RCMP have identified a couple of their boys we dont know how many or if the group presents itself or just a couple of boys present. Whether the RCMP are following up on these reports and there are quite a few. We dont know they havent said. All reports of the dreamcatcher sellers are now before Christmas and they are on the move all the time. As far as we know the RCMP have not tried to get footage of these people from any of the stores they have entered.

  4. I find myself in a difficult position. I agree with the RCMP that these sightings are very low-grade ore, but Oktoks is a town that is chock full of cameras and this does present an opportunity to utterly squelch this sighting as unfounded or to upgrade its value by at least identifying the vehicle involved.
