We are the Rooney family from Australia and are desperately searching for our son Owen, who walked away from the hospital and his belongings in Grand Forks, BC, on August 14, 2010. He has not been heard from since. It is extremely unusual for him to not be in contact with friends and family.

He had sustained a head injury on Aug 12, 2010.

He is 5'9" tall, 160 lb, has an Australian accent and was last seen wearing a dark shirt and shorts. He has tattoos on his right calf and on his shoulder (see pictures below, right). He worked at Big White in Kelowna for the previous two winters and at a restaurant in Kelowna until his disappearance.

We are asking for your help and are most appreciative of any help you can give us. If you can print out posters and put them up, that would help a LOT (visit this site and right click to print or go to the Facebook page and click on File and then Owens Poster to download it). Read below to see where posters have already been placed.

Our Facebook page is Help Find Owen Rooney. To share via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, etc, there is a row of icons below the word Comments under each post. Just click on the appropriate one. Facebook gives you two choices for the thumbnail you can use. I suggest you use the picture of Owen. I can't get it to be the default.

Do you have any further ideas? Enter any info by clicking a Comments link below. Thanks!!

100 Mile House

After the airing of the Fifth Estate program, the RCMP in 100 Mile House were contacted regarding a possible sighting of Owen there. They looked into the person thought possibly to be Owen and it believe to be a local man.

However we are very grateful to Constable Chris Manseau for keeping our story alive and submitting it to the local newspaper.

Here is a link to the story in the 100 Mile Free Press.

We Are Not The Only Family Missing a Loved One

Since we have begun our search for Owen, a number of people have contacted us to say that they too have missing loved ones. Some have found them, but others have not. A friend of a missing young lady in Revelstoke, BC has suggested we help each other with an exchange of information on each other's sites, to help us all reach a wider audience:

Here is Brianne Wolgram's story:
Twelve and a half years ago she went missing in Revelstoke, BC. On Sept 7, 2010 the The Province newspaper published this article:

"The Revelstoke teen was only 19 when she vanished on Sept. 5, 1998, last seen at 11:30 p.m. outside a 7-Eleven store in the company of three unidentified girls about her age.

Five days later, her black Acura Integra was found on a logging road near Akolkolex Falls, about a 45-minute drive from her house. Her keys were in the ignition; her ID and cash found in the glove compartment."

ninemsn in Australia

ninemsn in Australia has a news story about our situation. There are a few details included there that other stories have not had. Also a more pictures, a timeline and a map. Here is the first part of the article:
The Rooney family, which includes Owen's parents and three siblings, is clinging to the hope the young traveller is still alive and may not know who he is.

PHOTOS: Family's desperate search

But they also feel frustrated by "loose ends" in the investigation such as why Owen sent about 10 text messages to his ex-girlfriend the night before he disappeared and what made him walk out of a hospital without telling anyone, while still recovering from head trauma, and leave behind his broken phone and backpack.

MAP: Owen's last known movements
